About this mod
Unusual among Black Lion Audio interface mods, the Avid Pro Tools Carbon mod does not include a clock upgrade.
There’s a couple of reasons for this. First, the unit simply doesn’t afford us enough internal space to install a new clock without flying long leads across the entire unit, which isn't great for high-speed clock signals. We were skeptical that Carbon’s performance would improve to the level it did without an upgraded clock… but our signal path and converter decoupling mods turned it into one of the most revealing systems we’ve ever heard, regardless.
Fact is the Carbon sounded great out the box, in no small part due to its parallel-wired, high-end 32-bit converters. The D/A side in particular is like a magnifying glass. It exposes even the most nuanced details of a mix.
